Dr. Foyle loves optometry and has been serving Solana Beach for over 40 years. His passion for optometry started early in high school when a family friend offered him a part time job in one of largest and most prestigeous optometric practices in West Los Angeles. The job was to do lab work; learning about eye glass prescriptions, ordering lenses, managing lens inventory and making glasses. The Eye Doctor that he worked for was a stickler for quality and accuracy. Not only did young Michael excel in this new endeavor, he was made lab manager when he was a junior in high school. That was it, he found his life work and started on the fast tract to becoming an optometrist.
During his time at that practice and knowing he was going to apply to optometry school after college, many of the junior eye doctors in the practice took him under their wings and would invite Michael in the exam room when they were seeing difficult cases and interesting pathology, much like a medical intern would experience in the hospital. The senior eye doctor and practice owner was very big on patient communication and problem solving and would make sure that all of his patients were completely satisfied(the reason he had such a successful practice). This golden rule stuck with Dr. Foyle early on and probably is the number one reason why his optometry practice has been so successful!
The training that Dr. Foyle received in high school was also key in obtaining early acceptance to optometry school. With 5-6 years of practical experience, he was light years ahead of the entering optometric students with regards to practical optometry. Dr. Foyle ultimately graduated youngest in class from the Southern California College of Optometry at the age of 23. He had a great opportunity to join this large Optometric practice in LA, but he always had his heart set on living and working in North San Diego County because of the many surf trips that he made to the area while in school.
Technology continues to improve on a daily basis. It requires a lot of hard work and dedication to keep up, but Dr. Foyle stays current with all the latest new technology by attending countless hours of continuing education (CE) and seminars. In fact, he far exceeds the basic CE requirement needed to renew his license every year. This dedication helps him to stay on top of his profession and allows him to provide his patients with the best possible.
